Lansing’s Run for Fame 5K

With so many 5Ks occurring in the summer months, it is really hard to narrow it down to which ones to participate in. If you’re looking for a quick and easy summer near Lansing, Michigan, I recommend the Run for Fame 5K.

The Run for Fame 5K is a smaller race that brings people together from all different levels to raise awareness for past athletes. The course is easy, pretty, and provides nice views of the Grand River.

It is also part of the Greater Lansing Area Race Series.

The Course

Course Route on a map

Participants started on the sidewalk of downtown Lansing in front of the Lansing Center and with the Michigan State Capitol building looming in the background.

Amie on the river trail

From there, the course quickly jumped onto the Lansing River Trail. Runners and walkers got to enjoy the scenic views of the Grand River and, best of all, no road crossings or traffic.

The course was out-and-back, completely paved, and very flat with a single minor hill.

Oddly enough, there was a single aid station providing water near the 1.5-mile mark. Although strange to see on a 5k course, it was nice to know that it was there, especially with the heat and humidity of the summer.

Overall it was a pleasant city route to run once we were off of the sidewalk.

Goodies

Hall of Fame t-shirt
T-shirt

All participants received a t-shirt that was surprisingly lightweight. With most 5K race t-shirts, I tuck them away once the race is over. This one, however, I can use for running in the fall.

In addition to the t-shirt, there were awards for overall winners and medals for those who placed in the top 3 of their male/female age groups.

The Organization – Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame

One of the reasons I selected the Run for Fame 5K was because of the race organization and what they are doing for community athletes.

The Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame began in 1976 to honor and remember the amazing athletes that come from mid-Michigan. Their hard work and the pride that they brought back to the community will not be forgotten.

Overall

The Run for Fame 5K is a pleasant race with few challenges and lots of fun.

Will I run it again? Possibly. Paved courses are not my favorite but I did have fun running this one. Plus, it’s for a good cause.
