Take a run through Yankee Springs Recreational Area at Trivium Racing’s Winter Trail Fest. Enjoy snow and ice-covered trails, pretty scenery, and great swag at this fun winter event.
Winter Trail Fest offers 2 options; the 5 mile and the half marathon. Both races begin at the same time and follow the same course for about 3 miles. I opted for the 5 mile this year.
The course was fairly easy, made more challenging by the snow and ice. Expect a mix of flat stretches on wide-open roads, single-line trail, and small hills. I was frustrated with the inability to pass on most places throughout the trail portion (mile 2 and 3).
The best part is the creek crossing. About a half mile from the finish line, participants have the chance to cross a nearly knee-high deep creek!
All participants receive a very nice hooded sweatshirt and a finisher’s medal upon the completion of the course.
Overall male/female and top 3 finishers in each age group were awarded a very warm W.T.F hat.
This event is well organized. The volunteers and organizers really care about those attending having fun and being safe. They provided an assortment of delicious goodies for refueling, bonfires for warmth, and thousands of awesome photographs.
The Winter Trail Fest is a great way to wrap up the winter season. I’m looking forward to running it again next year. For more information visit, Winter Trail Fest.
