Run-a-Munk at Woldumar Nature Center

Trail runners and hikers rejoice! The Run-a-Munk is a fun and challenging race at one of my favorite local places.

Woldumar Nature Center is hosting it’s 12th annual Run-A-Munk race on November 3rd, 2019. For the past two years, I’ve signed up and participated in this fantastic event.

Offering a 5k walk/run, 1 mile kids’ race, and a 10k run, Run-A-Munk has something to offer all levels of nature enthusiasts.

Through prairie land, wooded white pines, and along the grand river, this race takes you through some of the most scenic areas of the center.

Keep in mind that this is a true trail race. That means there’s lots of tree roots, uneven ground, and sometimes even muddy portions of the trail. It really keeps you on your toes and for a trail runner, is the perfect race to get off of the pavement.

Woldumar Run A Munk Shirt
2018 Run-A-Munk Shirt, bought for $15 additional

Unlike most 5k races, participants no longer receive a t-shirt or gift with their registration fee. Registration fee isn’t discounted either. A shirt can be purchased for an addition $15. I bought the 2018 tech shirt and it works great for my cool weather runs, but because the price of the race is the same as one where you get a t-shirt, I won’t be buying another one this year.

All participants do receive a finisher medal. The 2018 medal was made from a wood slice and was unique to Woldumar. Top finishers in age groups and male/female also receive medals. Digital photographs with the option to purchase are also offered. These are always a special treat!
