Celebrate the season with the Hot Cider Hustle 5K. This race is set in the picturesque Hawk Island Park in Lansing, Michigan. The course includes beautiful views of vibrant autumn foliage and the tranquil lake. The best part? Once crossing the finish line, unique treats await! All participants receive hot cider and a tasty caramel apple.
The Hot Cider Hustle 5K
The race began at 8:30 a.m. on a crisp, fall morning. The Half Marathoners took off at 8:20 a.m. and shortly after we were corralled into the start.
The course followed the paved pathway around Hawk Island with a short section along the Lansing River Trail. It was almost entirely flat and paved, making it an excellent option for those starting out or those looking for a fast 5K.
The only downside to the course was that the pathways were narrow for the number of people who were participating, especially at the turnaround sections where participants going out and coming back overlapped.
One of my favorite sections of the course was near the finish line. The route took us off the beaten path and onto the floating boardwalks where we could really take in the autumn views.
The Goodies
All participants receive a hooded sweatshirt or a long-sleeved t-shirt, a finisher mug, hot cider, and a caramel apple.
I opted for the hooded sweatshirt. The hooded sweatshirt isn’t very heavy but is soft and comfortable.
There are additional add-ons, including a Finisher Medal, for those who want more swag.
Overall
This is a fun, fall race with a unique finish celebration of hot cider and a caramel apple. Who could complain about that? Not too mention it was sponsored by and helped support the Special Olympics Michigan. A fun race with a great cause. It doesn’t get better than that.
The course was beautiful, the race was well organized, and everyone was incredibly helpful and kind. It was the perfect race to kick off the fall season.
