Maybury State Park boasts nearly 1,000 acres of rolling terrain, open meadows, and mature forest. Located in southeast Michigan near the town of Northville, this park provides an excellent escape from the city.

With trails to accommodate hikers of all experiences, horses, and bikers of all levels, Maybury State Park has something for everyone. This park has been on my bucket list for a long time and I’m happy I finally made it.

The Trail

Maybury State Park Trail

The state park has four recreational trails for visitors to explore.

  • Equestrian trail – 8 miles
  • Hiking Trail – 6 miles
  • Mountain Biking Trail – 7 miles
  • Paved Bicycle/Walking Trail – 4 miles

On this trip, we stuck mainly to the hiking trail.

Maybury Hiking Trail

The hiking trail is made up of interconnecting loops that lead from parking areas through a beautiful wooded forest to a grassland/wetland area.

Because the trail cuts through a large deciduous forest, with trees like beech and maple, this would be a stunning hike in peak fall.

Hikers need to be on the lookout for roots and rocks along this route. They are common enough to pay attention to but not too difficult to increase the technical aspect of the trail.

People walking on Maybury Trail

The trail had plenty of emergency access points. More than I typically see on a single trail.

Along the way, we enjoyed watching squirrels scuttle about in preparation for fall and seeing a wide variety of mushrooms along the trail and on the trees.

Overall

Pond at Maybury State Park

Maybury State Park offers a quiet, pleasant hike through the woods. It provides an escape from the city and a sanctuary to connect with nature. The trails aren’t difficult enough to discourage beginner hikers but also provide enough challenge to keep things interesting.

I enjoyed exploring this trail and look forward to a return visit.
