Winter has been lacking this year in our area of the state. Snow has not been sticking around. So we decided to pack up the pups and head north in search of a cozy cabin for a winter wonderland getaway. We found just that in Afton, Michigan.
The Olson Cabin might not be in the middle of the woods but it certainly has that peaceful quality. Pair that with the beautiful views of the Pigeon River, running wild just steps away, and you have the perfect cabin. It is well worth the visit.
Built in the 1940’s, this cabin has two bedrooms, a beautiful screened-in porch that offers views of the river, a full kitchen, a bathroom with shower, a lovely little dining space, and a fantastic fireplace furnace.
Historical photographs and stories are found throughout the cabin. It created a sense of welcoming like we were part of the family. It is really special to us to be able to experience that in the places we visit – the sense of home.
The cabin was very clean and well-organized. We were able to find everything we needed, including some surprises. The owners provided us with an assortment of coffee, tea, bottled water, and hot cocoa.
In addition to scenic river views and a cozy interior, this cabin’s location offers some beautiful night skies. Stargazing while listening to the soft babbling of the river. It doesn’t get much better than that.
We loved the Olson Cabin. It has quickly become one of our favorites and we will be back. It provided us with a worry-free trip, where we could enjoy the beauty of the winter that surrounded us.
