A Weekend Stay at Green Lake Campground

Located in Waterloo Recreation Area, Green Lake Campground provides an excellent home base for exploring the great outdoors. Access to miles of hiking trail, boating, and horseback riding, this campground is perfect for a weekend get-a-way.

Brisco sniffing at Green Lake

Green Lake is a rustic campground with 25 sites, including a Yurt. Reservations can be made in advance or upon arrival. Reserved sites are clearly marked with yellow tags.

Site 11

I reserved our site ahead of time and selected site 11. Although very sloped, this site does offer flatter areas for tents. My favorite part was the beautiful views of Green Lake. The lake was very active with a variety of waterfowl.

As a rustic campground, amenities are limited to vault toilets and a hand pump for water. There is also a boat launch for those interested in fishing.

Waterloo Recreation Area

Waterloo Recreation Area has something for everyone. From hiking to horseback riding, outdoor enthusiasts have plenty of activities to choose from. It is the largest state park in the Lower Peninsula with over 20,000 acres of land. It includes 11 inland lakes, multiple camping options, and plenty of hiking trails.

What We Liked

Despite being off of a busy, main road, Green Lake Campground is very quiet and peaceful. We couldn’t hear the traffic.

After sunset

The views of Green Lake are beautiful and well worth the stay. I especially enjoyed watching the sunset over the lake.

The Waterloo-Pinckney trail cuts through the campground, providing easy access to nearly 40 miles of hiking trail, right out the door.

In addition to the Waterloo-Pinckney trail, the Waterloo-DTE Energy Foundation Trail (10 miles) and the Border To Border Trail (35 miles of paved pathway) are nearby.

The large sites provide plenty of space to spread out and not feel like you’re camping on top of your neighbors.

What We Didn’t Like

We really liked this campground and have a hard time coming up with something we didn’t like. I’m hoping to return in the future and spend more time exploring the area.
