Tucked away just minutes outside of L’Anse, Michigan, is a beautiful waterfall called Silver Falls. Silver Falls may not be the tallest waterfall in the Upper Peninsula, but what it lacks in sheer drop height, it easily makes up for in quiet charm.

Silver Falls consists of two distinct cascades all within a short, easy hike. And the best part. No crowds.

The Hike

The walk to Silver Falls takes only about 5 minutes from the parking area. There are a few spots available, but the good news is this waterfall doesn’t get the large crowds. We did have to share the falls with a couple of people during our visit, though.

From the parking lot, travel upstream to see the upper falls. This is the larger of the drops.

To get to the lower falls, retrace your steps back toward the parking area and head downstream a short distance. There are multiple side paths branching off toward the river, but stick to the trail, and you’ll soon reach the lower falls.

Tips for Visiting

• Bring bug spray during June and July
• This hike is generally easy, but there are two points where a hiking pole or walking stick could be useful if you’re unsteady on your feet.
