A Bucket List Worthy Waterfall: Miners Falls

Miners Falls is one Michigan waterfall that should be on everyone’s bucket list. Surrounded by the endless beauty of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, this waterfall can not only hold its own but also shine. An exceptional reward at the end of a relatively short hike.

This waterfall is one of our favorites in the state. Plunging around 50 feet over a sandstone cliff to a rocky river bed below. A classic waterfall worth visiting multiple times.

It is one of the most powerful waterfalls within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Visit in the spring and you’ll find out why. Springtime visitors can expect heavy waterfall spray as the swift Miners River surges over the cliff. Expect to get wet, even from the viewing platform.

The Hike

Hiking to Miners Falls is fairly easy and one of the few trails within the park open to pets. Travel 0.6 miles (one way) through the forest and get glimpses of the Miners Basin along the way. It is especially pretty in the spring when the forest floor is covered with blooming wildflowers.

We have seen people with strollers on this trail but keep in mind there are 64 steps at the end of the hike to reach the viewing platform. This hike is great for all age groups and the reward of seeing Miners Falls is well worth it.

Getting There

From Munising, follow E. Munising Ave east out of town. This turns into Adams Trail/H-58. Continue for about 2.5 miles and turn left onto Miner’s Castle Road. Follow for 3.7 miles and turn right onto Miners Falls Road. If you miss this turn, you will end up at Miners Castle.

Miners Falls Road dead-ends about 0.5 miles at the trailhead parking lot.
