Gear Review: Warbonnet Thunderfly

I decided to upgrade my Hennessy Hammock Rainfly to something with more versatility. I wanted it to provide a covered spot outside of the hammock and better protection from weather. I was impressed with how well Steve’s Warbonnet Superfly worked and wanted something similar. This led me to the smaller version of the Superfly; the Warbonnet Thunderfly.

Pros

Thunderfly with Ends Open

With adjustable end panels and the choice of how high or low the fly sits to the hammock, the Thunderfly allows for versatility in all kinds of weather.

It can be adjusted into “porch mode” to allow more breeze during hot days.

The Thunderfly provides an area of privacy and a protected space for storage.

It has withstood strong winds and heavy rains without flaw.

Easy to set up.

Cons

The guylines must be purchased separately. This could be a pro or a con. Having to by the guylines allows for more customization but it is also an additional expense.

Overall

With a full season of camping under its belt, I’m happy to say that the Thunderfly can handle most anything. It has been tested in hot days, cold nights, extremely high winds, thunderstorms and heavy downpours. It has kept me comfortable and dry not matter the weather.

It has performed perfectly.
