Location: East Lansing, Michigan
When I signed up for the 1st Annual Halloween Links 5K, I never imagined that it would be on the actual golf course. Taking place at the Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan, this is one of the most unique 5Ks I have ran.
The Halloween Links 5K was the first time running 3.1 miles on grass. It had rained the day before, all night, and most of the morning. I was concerned about slippery surfaces. There were puddles of water but the grass was surprisingly easy to run on. As a trail runner, I love running through puddles and hit everyone I could.
The surface of the course was smooth. No divot or holes to worry about twisting an ankle. The terrain, however, was constantly varying. There was hardly any flat places. I loved it.
For $25 cost to register, I received a t-shirt.
The awards were different than traditional 5K races. Instead of finisher medals for age groups, awards were given for men/women 49 and under, 50 to 60, and 70 above.
Additional events included a free 1 mile kids race, costume contest, long drive contest (it is a golf course, after all), and closest to pin contest.
More details about this race can be found at Halloween Links 5K Run/Walk.
