Hiking during hot days requires a bit of creative thinking and planning. Avoiding mid-day temperatures can help but what about those days when it can’t be avoided? We had this very problem when we did our hike through Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Our solution was the Mission Enduracool Microfiber Towel.

What We Like
Does what it says. Mission claims that the towel can cool 30 degrees below average body temperature when wet. We can’t say that it cools to 30 degrees, but we can say it makes a significant difference.
Lightweight.
Soft material. We’ve used microfiber in the past and it’s been itchy and uncomfortable. The Enduracool towel is the exact opposite of that. Steve and I both put it on the back of our necks and shoulders. No itching or chaffing.
Easy to use. Wet, wring, and snap. You’re good to go.
What We Don’t Like
Mission claims that the towel stays cool for up to 2 hours. In our experience, it doesn’t last that long.
It can be problematic if you aren’t hiking in an area where water isn’t frequently available. Our hikes usually include streams or lakes.
Because it is so lightweight, it’s easy to lose. On one of our recent hikes, the towel fell off of my neck and I didn’t realize it until it was long gone.
Conclusion
The Mission Enduracool Microfiber may not be great for all situations but it certainly has made a difference in our summer hikes. It has well earned its place.
