Located in the small town of Germfask, the Northland Outfitters Campground & Canoe/Kayak Livery offers guests scenic views of the Manistique River. With campsites and cabins, it has a little bit of everything for everyone.
Conveniently located off of M-77, we stopped here as an overnight stay between home and the Porcupine Mountains.
What We Liked
Despite being so close to the road, Northland Outfitters is a quiet, peaceful little campground.
With only 14 camping sites and 4 cabins, it is a small campground. In my opinion, small campgrounds are often more laid back, calm, and quiet.
Our site (#6) was located right on the Manistique River. We enjoyed a pretty view right from our picnic table.
There is a lot to do at the campground. A horseshoe pit, volleyball court, canoe and kayak rentals, and inside the office, a game table for card or board games.
The bathhouse and shower were clean. Outhouses are also available near the sites farthest away from the bathhouse. We didn’t use those.
A camp store with basic supplies is on the premises. Mom took advantage of their coffee in the morning and I got a nice cup of hot tea.
The campground is within 2 miles of Seney Wildlife Refuge. With miles of trails for hiking, biking, and driving, and unlimited wildlife experiences, this is definitely the star attraction of the area.
The staff were friendly and inviting.
What We Didn’t Like
Some of the camp sites (ours included) didn’t have much privacy between them. When the campground is full, it would be nice to have that little divider between you and your neighbor. However, the sites are a decent size which could help with that. Sites 1 through 4 had a number of trees and would be a good option if you’re worried about privacy.
Conclusion
The Northland Outfitters Campground is a nice, peaceful campground with things to do right in camp. It’s a great location for a overnight stay where you want to stretch out from a long car ride or for multiple day trips where you’re seeking relaxation.
