Running the Blarney Stone

Location: Potterville, Michigan

Who doesn’t want to help rescue cats, train dogs, and save parks all while enjoying the thrills of a race?

In time for St. Patrick’s day and a welcome greeting to spring, the Blarney Stone offers a 5k, 10k, or half marathon race for walkers and runners. I decided to sign up for the 10k and made this my first 10k race.

Beginning and ending in Alliance Lake Softball Park, the route looped around the park, through downtown Potterville, and up to a sub division. Here the 10k runners did a u-turn and started their journey back to the park. Those running the half marathon continued on.

The route was mostly pavement with a little dirt at the beginning and end. There were plenty of hills to challenge participants, both steep and steady.

My Medals

All participants received a tech t-shirt and, upon finishing, a medal.

I finished 1st for my age group and receive an additional medal.

Proceeds from the race went to the Mid Michigan Cat Rescue, Canines for Change, and the Potterville Parks Department.

This was a fun race and a great first 10k. The volunteers and other runners were friendly and supportive, encouraging each other as we passed. I’m looking forward to trying out the half marathon next year.
