Every year I look forward to visiting Lake Michigan in the winter. There is something very special about this time of year. Yes, it’s freezing (and I mean freezing) with bone chilling wind but the ice formations on the lake and lighthouses are masterpieces sculpted by nature and well worth it. At least to me.
As part of my birthday tour of Michigan’s west coast, we stopped at Little Sable Point. A snow storm was rolling in when we were there and the high winds and snow flying everywhere. Best of all, we were the only ones there.
Little Sable Lighthouse is one of the more unique lighthouses I’ve visited on Lake Michigan. It was built in 1874 and looks very similar to what it did when it was first built. The tower is 107 feet tall and there are tours available when the lighthouse is open.
