Presque Isle Park in Marquette, Michigan, is truly a diamond amongst gems. This 323-acre forested peninsula juts out into Lake Superior, offering a perfect blend of rugged wilderness and accessible, family-friendly adventure.
If you’re planning on a trip to the Upper Peninsula, you simply cannot skip Presque Isle.
What Makes Presque Isle So Special?
Presque Isle has beautiful vistas, is a haven for wildlife, and is a geological marvel. The park’s diverse landscape makes it a photographer’s dream and an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise.
The park contains two picnic areas, concession facilities, hiking trails, an open-air park shelter, a historic wood band shell, restrooms, and a custom-designed timber gazebo.
Not too mention stunning views of Lake Superior, massive black rock coves, and a black rock shoreline that I could have explored forever.

Must-Do Activities at Presque Isle

Cliff Jumping at Black Rocks
The park’s most famous activity is cliff jumping at Black Rocks. The Black Rocks are a set of ancient volcanic rock formations where the brave (and confident swimmers) can take a thrilling 15 to 20-foot leap into the clear, cold waters of Lake Superior. Or if jumping isn’t your thing, these are extremely fun to explore.
Drive, Walk or Bike Peter White Drive
This scenic one-way road circles the perimeter of the peninsula, offering continuous, breathtaking views of the lake. The loop is approximately 2.2 miles and is perfect for a leisurely drive, a peaceful walk, or a scenic bike ride. The park is closed to motor vehicles during certain hours, during winter, and at certain times during the blue-spotted salamander migrations.
Catch a Sunset at Sunset Point
Sunset Point offers one of the best sunset views in Marquette. With the Huron Mountains silhouetted against the fiery horizon, you won’t regret it. Don’t expect to have it all to yourself, though!
Explore the Interior Trails
While the outer loop gets all the attention, the interior of Presque Isle is a hidden gem in itself. Miles of winding trails go through dense forest where diverse wildlife can be spotted. These trails are also a great option if the weather isn’t ideal for being on the shoreline.
Plan Your Trip

Presque Isle Park is a short drive from downtown Marquette. Simply follow Lakeshore Boulevard north, past the Iron Ore Docks (a unique sight to see in itself), until you reach the park entrance.
Parking is available, but it can fill up quickly in the summertime.
Animals are not allowed at the park, unless confined to a motor vehicle at all times.
