What does it take to make a perfect campground? Amazing views? Great Hikes?
To us, 12 Mile Beach Campground in the Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore has it all. Located right on a sandy bluff above Lake Superior. And I mean right above. You could spend all day with your feet in the sand and listening to the waves.

In addition to the hike through the White Birch Forest that begins and ends at 12 Campground, the Lakeshore Trail/North Country Trail also runs through it. This provides an easy access to some of the prettiest hiking scenery in all of the Pictured Rocks.

The campground is on a first-come, first-serve basis, with an overnight fee of $14 or $16, depending on whether or not you want a lakeside site. With merely 37 sites, however, this campground fills up fast! It’s a good idea to arrive early in the morning if you want to score a site here.

Keep in mind that this is a rustic campground so there is no electricity, water, or sewer hook-ups and no cell phone reception.
