When searching for a campground that balances the wild beauty of Kentucky with easy access to trails, I landed at Sheltowee Trace Adventure Park (Falls Campground and Cabins) in Corbin, Kentucky.
Not only does the park offer plenty of activities on-site, but it is also mere minutes from the beautiful Cumberland Falls State Park and the wild Daniel Boone National Forest. For me, it was the perfect place to call home base.
The park itself offers a variety of lodging options, including:
- Resort Cabins
- Rustic Cabins
- RV Spots
- Water and Electric Tent Sites
- Rustic Tent Sites
- Tent Platform Sites
- Walk-In Tent Sites
- Covered Wagons

I stayed at site D2 in the rustic tent area, and for the most part, enjoyed it. Like most of the sites, it wasn’t hammock-friendly with a lack of enough trees per site, but the sites were all fairly flat and smooth for tent camping.
In addition to camping, there is a great camp store where you can find souvenirs, snacks, and miscellaneous items you may have forgotten to pack. This is also where you go to sign up for one of the many activities offered, like whitewater rafting, kayaking and canoeing, ziplining, or even a raft ride or paddleboarding adventure to the base of Cumberland Falls.
What I Liked

The park is very pet-friendly. Although I didn’t bring Dakota, my beagle, with me, I loved that pets are welcomed almost everywhere, including most cabins. It is rare to find a place that doesn’t restrict dogs to just the tent areas.
Every staff member I spoke with was incredibly friendly. If they didn’t have an answer immediately, they went out of their way to find it for me.
While cell service was nonexistent (usually a plus), camping solo in a different state made communication with family a priority. Their free wifi made it possible for me to stay connected….while in camp, that is.
What Could Be Improved
While the location was convenient, the cleanliness left a bit to be desired.
While my site was spacious, there was no privacy between my site and the one I backed up to. At one point, I was sitting by my fire while my neighbor was at their cooler, just a few feet away. It felt like I had a guest right in my campsite.
Final Thoughts
If you want to camp at a place that is near miles of hiking trails and beautiful waterfalls and has a staff that actually cares about your experience, Sheltowee Trace Adventure Park is a place to check out.
