A Quick Stop at Silver River Falls

Location: Keweenaw County

Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula has some impressive waterfalls. While Silver River Falls may not be at the top of the list, it still makes for an interesting and scenic stop.

Despite visiting in July, the shallow Silver River was flowing surprisingly well. It was a summer of heavy, damaging rainfall that collapsed infrastructure throughout the Peninsula. The rivers and waterfalls were loving it.

Upper Drop

Silver River Falls is composed of two sets of drops, just off of M-26 near Eagle Harbor. The upper drop can be seen from the bridge. They are wide, stretching the entire river, and very smooth.

Following the river downstream a little farther, past a small set of pools, is the lower drop. Contrasting to the upper, the lower drops are much more narrow and flow over jagged rocks.
