To make it a bit easier to set up the Clark NX-270 hammock, we invested in a set of DEEQI Adjustable Tree Straps. These 12 foot polyester straps have 40 loops and can safely support up to 400lbs. These are fantastic straps. Easy to use and extremely easy to adjust. It takes some of the “guess work” out of where to hang the hammock.
The cold and snow won’t stop us from enjoying the outdoors. In fact, one of my favorite times of year to camp and/or hike is winter. No crowds, just us and nature. But before we hit the trails, we always ask: How are we going to stay warm?
How you camp is just as important as where you camp. Having a suitable shelter that fits your needs plays a major role in having a successful (and happy) trip. Back in April, I made the decision to switch from a tent to a hammock. It reduced the weight I carried, the amount of space my shelter took up in my pack, and the time required to set up camp. After a month of research, Steve made a similar decision and switched from a tent to the Clark NX-270, camo.
It’s almost time for our 42.2 mile hike through Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore. This will not be our most challenging hike but it will be our longest. We’ve taken many things into consideration planning this trip and thought it would be a good time to reflect.
For months Steve and I have been talking about different ways to reduce more camping weight and started investigating hammocks vs tents. It took awhile but I finally decided to take a chance and bought the Hennessy Hammock Explorer Ultralight Asym Zip Hammock.
Pigeon River State Forest is my favourite place to camp in the Lower Peninsula. It is rustic, has amazing wildlife and offers a variety of activities. It is the largest state forest in Michigan at nearly 100,000 acres. It is the home to the largest elk herd east of the Mississippi. But don’t expect to see elk all over, they are shy and hard to find. On this trip to Pigeon River, we invited a couple of our close friends, Brittany and Mike, to join us and share in our adventure. We had a blast!
