Waterfalls are a hot topic these days. People are starting to branch out from Tahquamenon and explore the other wonders of Michigan. To us, the more wild the better. Ogemaw Falls is one of those. It’s simple, elegant and remains untouched. This remote waterfall has a lot to offer if you just know where to look.
Letherby Falls is one of the most impressive and unique Michigan waterfalls we have visited. Chutes, drops, slides, cascades…you name it, it has it.
The Sturgeon River is a 106 mile long wild, raging river with some pretty amazing waterfalls. One such waterfall is Canyon Falls, called such for a good reason.
There’s a little known waterfall in the Keweenaw called Hungarian Falls.
Fall Creek Falls State Park is a wonderland. It contains Fall Creek Falls, a massive 256 foot tall waterfall, five other waterfalls, 34 miles of hiking trails, a golf course, a campground, and a zip line. Not bad for a state park.
Steve and I decided to kick 2016 off right; waterfalls, hiking and a cabin in the U.P. We took some free time away from work and family for just the two of us – and the beagles, of course. I looked at it as a blessing for the new year and that this will be the year we finally purchase the perfect property for our home.
We had a great time on this trip. We met up with some of my best friends and explored the many beautiful sights and stops found in Cades Cove.
As usual, Steve and I were eager to seek out the supposedly impressive waterfalls in our visit to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. One such waterfall was Rainbow Falls. However, we were both a bit disappointed with this waterfall.
We have not yet seen all 272 recorded waterfalls in Michigan but we have seen more than most. We never turn down an opportunity to trudge in a river, scale gorge walls or bushwhack through nature to access some of the most wild waterfalls in the state. Waterfalls are, without a doubt, my favorite subject to photograph. And the more wild the better.
Over the past few years, Steve and I have made a huge dent in our Michigan Waterfalls list. This year, however, we seemed to be spending more time seeing waterfalls we’ve already visited instead of discovering new ones. So we planned a trip focused solely on seeking out some we hadn’t seen before, including Black Slate Falls; a new favorite.
