A Wintry Black River Falls
Squeezed between two large rock outcroppings is the 20 foot tall Black River Falls. This waterfall, located in Marquette County near Ely, is easy to access, even in the winter time.
This was our first visit to this waterfall and while it was pretty it wasn’t as impressive as some of the other waterfalls in the area. Still, it was fun to watch the frozen-like foam bobble on the river.
- Drive about 8 miles south of Ishpeming on Country Road 581.
- 1 mile after crossing the bridge over Escanaba River, turn right onto a dirt road with a sign for the Island Lake Hunting Club.
- Take the left fork first and then two right forks, roughly 1.3 miles from 581.
- Park near the large rocks that block off the parking area and continue on foot in a northly direction.
